Verona leaned into the legend early: by the 1800s Grand Tourists were demanding Juliet sites, and the city obliged with a house, a tomb, and eventually a stage-worthy courtyard — literary tourism a century before the phrase existed, curated with absolute Italian confidence.
The house interior displays the actual bed and costumes from Zeffirelli's 1968 film — donated by the director — and couples can be married in the house under Verona's civil-wedding program. The balcony itself is bookable for proposals; the city keeps a waiting list.
